“Tip the world over on its side and everything loose will land in
Los Angeles.”
- Frank Lloyd Wright
Los Angeles is the most incredible city on Earth! It draws people of a certain kind to its glamouring lights, and silhouette palm trees against a pink sunset nestled between the mountains and the ocean. Tourists come and go, but the ones L.A. keeps for herself are the free spirits, the artists and progressive thinkers, who else would want to live in a crowded dirty-paradise called
“La-La Land?” - Danny Keaton
Back in the 80s, the Sunset Strip was the place to be for aspiring musicians, celebrities, and party animals alike. It was a time when the stars were larger than life, and the bar scene was even bigger. The Sunset Strip was the ultimate party destination. It was home to some of the wildest and craziest nightclubs in Los Angeles, including The Whisky a Go Go, and The Roxy. These clubs were notorious for their live music, celebrity sightings, and drug-fueled debauchery.
It wasn't just the clubs that made the Sunset Strip so legendary, though. The street itself was a spectacle. Many people would drive down the Strip just to see and be seen. It was almost like a fashion show on wheels, with people dressing up in their wildest and most elaborate outfits, from punk rockers with mohawks to glam metal fans with teased hair and spandex.
The Sunset Strip was also a hub for aspiring musicians looking to make it big in the industry. Many famous bands got their start on the Strip, including Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue, and Van Halen. It was where they honed their skills and played their first gigs, eventually catapulting them to superstardom.
The Sunset Strip in the 80s was a time and place like no other. It was the height of excess, a time when anything was possible and everything was larger than life. It was a time when being cool meant hanging out on the Strip, and partying until the sun came up. While the Strip may look a lot different today, the memories and stories from back in the day will always live on. So, to anyone who was lucky enough to experience the Sunset Strip in its prime, cheers to you. And if you missed out, well, you missed out on one hell of a ride.
This section is dedicated to the bands, clubs, fans, service industry workers and people of Los Angeles/Hollywood/K-town/East Hollywood/Venice Beach/Santa Monica/DTLA/Boyle Heights. You are the place we will always love. We didn’t get to ride in long black cars but we have stories of when we slept on the beach underneath the stars. When we were high as the stratosphere on Sunset Bl. and we caught an applause at one of your clubs. We didn’t know what would happen and then we were on T.V. Just being with you makes me happy.
Every week on this webpage, we feature bands from Hollywood's Sunset Strip. Glam rock, heavy metal and hard rock from the 80's!
Most of these videos were recorded on 80's camcorders, so be cool with the video quality!
